Myco Purchases Jacksonville Tool & Die, Inc.

11/2/21

In November, Jacksonville’s own Myco Plastics, Inc. (Myco) closed on the purchase of Jacksonville Tool & Die, Inc. (JTD). Myco CEO Bud Hanna said, “since the purchase of Myco, we’ve always had the desire to build our own toolroom. Our internal toolroom at our site in Mississippi has been vital to reducing costs in our tooling maintenance and repair programs. However, when Mart O. Betts offered to partner with us, it was an easy decision to go that route instead.” After the completion of the purchase, however, Myco will continue to operate the business as JTD at its current location at TX-456 Loop.

“Although JTD will be purchased by Myco, the operation of the two sites will remain separate as to not interfere with JTD’s current customer base” said Myco President and General Manager Joshua Hanna. “This move will allow us to vertically integrate our ability to maintain and repair tools, but won’t affect JTD’s current customers or our current tooling suppliers.”

Immediate plans by Myco include updating JTD’s resource management software, updating their supplier network, and transitioning unused equipment to Myco.

2020 Year-End Review of Myco Plastics, Inc.

12/23/20

Although we did not get to celebrate the end of the year as normal due to the pandemic, the Myco Plastics, Inc. team still had plenty to be thankful for. By instituting a mask mandate in April, we were able to record zero community transmission of SARS-COV-2 within our facility in 2020. Unfortunately, we did have employees become sick over the year with the novel virus but we are pleased to report that each person has recovered fully, to date. Although the worse of the virus may still be ahead of us, we are grateful for our employees for coming together, and staying apart, to limit the spread of COVID-19 and finish the year strong. The employees that led the charge to finish the year positively were our award winners listed below:

Mississippi-based company invests in Jacksonville

5/1/18

In March, Booneville, Mississippi-based South Central Polymers, Inc. (SCP) closed on the purchase of Myco Plastics, Inc. (Myco). SCP President and CEO Bud Hanna said, “the company [SCP] was originally planning to expand into another market, but was drawn to Jacksonville by the strength of its existing plastics industry.” SCP will continue to operate as Myco in Jacksonville.

“A driver in the decision to purchase Myco was the talent and tenure of the current employees” said SCP Vice-President and General Manager Joshua Hanna. “Approximately a third of the current employees have worked at Myco for more than 10-years and in April we were pleased to announce pay raises for our people.”

Immediate plans by SCP include interior and exterior improvements to their location on US HWY 79. Near-term plans include expansion of the building, investment in additional injection-molding equipment, and growth in employee count.

“Jacksonville’s robust plastics industry continues to draw outside investment, and the Jacksonville Economic Development Corporation (JEDCO) is committed to leveraging our position in the market”, said JEDCO Chairman of the Board Darrell Dement. “We look forward to building a strong relationship with SCP and appreciate their investment.”

COVID-19 Response

3/17/20

The outbreak and continued spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) is causing a lot of concern for increased risk associated with raw material supply availability.

Currently, we are not aware of any disruption in our ability to maintain adequate levels of supply due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) but know this will change on a part by part basis with some cargo delays from China and Europe.

We evaluate each order’s lead-time at the time we receive the order and will give you the date we feel comfortable with at the time of confirmation. We are in constant communication with our suppliers and will alert our customers as soon as we are made aware of a potential issue involving your product or a change to the delivery status. We are taking the following precautionary steps to prevent the spread of the virus:

  • Limiting non-essential visits to customers

  • Limiting non-essential visits to our facilities

  • Mask wearing and to keep reasonable social distance

  • Survey of guests for essential visits to be filled out before entry
